The Rotomoulding Process Components

1. Mould fitting.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and put inside the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion step.
Once inside the oven, the mold is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The rotation is done slowly and gradually, about 20 rotations per min. The main thing that is essential at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose stability and durability, generating a faulty item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which generates bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the product has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of extraction from the mould. This is yet another measure that depends a lot on the correct timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too fast, causing bending of the product.

4. The un-loading or de-molding phase.
As soon as the component inside te mould has cooled effectively, the molder managing the procedure can then extract the finalized product from the mould. The process is repeated from the beginning, providing a number of exact items.
