The Rotomoulding Process Components

1. Mold prep work.
A fixed measure of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mold. The mould is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic manufacturing.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and positioned into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion procedure.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mold. The spinning is done gradually, about 20 spins per sixty seconds. Something that is vital at this point is the amount of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the component will lose value and durability, making a poor item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed properly, which develops bubbles in the completed item.

3. Mould cooling.
When the component has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces slightly for ease of extraction from the mould. This is yet another measure that depends upon a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too quickly, causing warping of the material.

4. The un-loading or de-molding phase.
When the product inside te mold has cooled successfully, the person taking care of the operation can then remove the finished product from the mould. The technique is repeated from the beginning, giving a series of exact items.
