The Rotomoulding Method Components

1. Mould readying.
A predetermined amount of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mould. The mould is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The color tone desired for the finished product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic production.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and inserted inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion procedure.
Once inside the oven, the mold is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The spinning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 spins per minute. The main thing that is important at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose stability and durability, making a weak product. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted properly, which generates bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mold cooling.
When the component has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of extraction from the mold. This is one more procedure that depends a lot on the correct timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too quickly, causing warping of the item.

4. The unloading or de-moulding step.
When the product within te mould has cooled properly, the person handling the procedure can then extract the finished product from the mould. The function is repeated from the beginning, making a number of similar product lines.
