The Rotomolding Process Components

1. Mold fitting.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and inserted within the oven.

2. The heating and fusion step.
Once within the oven, the mold is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The spinning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 revolutions per min. One thing that is critical at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose stability and durability, making a poor item. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which creates bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mould cooling.
When the component has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces slightly for ease of extraction from the mold. This is another measure that relies a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too quick, causing warping of the material.

4. The removing or de-moulding step.
Once the material inside te mould has cooled adequately, the person taking care of the operation can then take out the completed product from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, making a number of similar product lines.
