The Rotomoulding Method Components

1. Mould prep work.
A predetermined measure of polymer in particle form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mould is usually constructed from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic engineering.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and inserted inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion phase.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The spinning is done gradually, about 20 spins per minute. Something that is essential at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose value and strength, creating a faulty item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which creates bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the material has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of extraction from the mold. This is yet another procedure that depends upon a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too quickly, causing bending of the product.

4. The offloading or de-molding step.
Once the product inside te mould has cooled adequately, the molder taking care of the procedure can then extract the finished item from the mould. The technique is repeated from the beginning, making a series of similar products.
