The Rotomolding Method Components

1. Mould readying.
A fixed volume of polymer in particle form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mould is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic manufacturing.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and placed inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion phase.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 spins per min. Something that is critical at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose value and durability, generating a weak item. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted properly, which develops bubbles in the finalized product line.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has completely spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the component cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of removal from the mold. This is an additional measure that relies a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too fast, causing bending of the item.

4. The unloading or de-molding step.
As soon as the product inside te mold has cooled effectively, the person handling the process can then take out the completed item from the mold. The function is repeated from the beginning, providing a series of exact products.
