The Rotomolding Method in Detail

1. Mould fitting.
A fixed volume of polymer in grain form is packed into a hollow mold. The mould is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The color desired for the final item is pre compounded into the polymer. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic production.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and placed into the oven.

2. The heating and fusion procedure.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and layers the inside if the mold. The spinning is done gradually, about 20 revolutions per sixty seconds. One thing that is vital at this point is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose value and strength, generating a weak product. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which creates bubbles in the completed item.

3. Mold cooling.
When the product has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces a little for ease of removal from the mold. This is an additional measure that relies a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too fast, causing bending of the item.

4. The discharging or de-molding phase.
As soon as the component inside te mould has cooled adequately, the person handling the procedure can then extract the finished product from the mold. The process is repeated from the beginning, providing a series of exact products.
