The Rotomoulding Process in Detail

1. Mould prep work.
A fixed measure of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mould. The mould is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and inserted inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion process.
Once within the oven, the mould is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mold. The spinning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 rotations per sixty seconds. Something that is essential at this point is the amount of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose value and strength, producing a poor item. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted properly, which generates bubbles in the finalized product line.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the product has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks a little for ease of removal from the mould. This is one more measure that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too quickly, causing warping of the item.

4. The discharging or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the component within te mould has cooled effectively, the person managing the process can then extract the finalized item from the mold. The technique is repeated from the beginning, providing a number of similar product lines.
