1. Mould preparation.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in particle form is filled into a hollow mold. The mold is usually made of cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic assembly.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and inserted within the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once inside the oven, the mould is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The spinning is done gradually, about 20 rotations per sixty seconds. The main thing that is important at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose stability and durability, generating a weak item. If it is removed from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which creates bubbles in the completed item.

3. Mold cooling.
When the material has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces slightly for ease of removal from the mould. This is yet another procedure that relies a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too quick, causing warping of the product.

4. The offloading or de-molding step.
Once the component inside te mold has cooled adequately, the molder handling the operation can then take out the finished item from the mould. The function is repeated from the beginning, giving a number of similar items.
