The Rotomoulding Procedure Components

1. Mould prep work.
A predetermined measure of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mold. The mold is usually comprised of cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic manufacturing.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and placed into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion procedure.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The turning is done gradually, about 20 rotations per sixty seconds. Something that is important at this moment is the period of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose value and durability, producing a weak item. If it is removed from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which creates bubbles in the finished product line.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the component has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces a little for ease of removal from the mould. This is an additional measure that depends a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quick, causing bending of the material.

4. The un-loading or de-molding phase.
Once the product within te mold has cooled correctly, the molder handling the process can then extract the completed product from the mould. The function is repeated from the start, providing a series of identical products.
