1. Mold prep work.
A predetermined volume of polymer in grain form is packed into a hollow mould. The mold is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic assembly.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and inserted into the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion phase.
Once inside the oven, the mold is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly, about 20 rotations per min. Something that is important at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose stability and strength, making a faulty item. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which produces bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has completely spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of extraction from the mould. This is yet another measure that relies a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too quickly, causing warping of the material.

4. The offloading or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the material within te mould has cooled correctly, the molder handling the operation can then remove the completed item from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the start, making a series of similar items.
