The Rotomolding Method Components

1. Mold prep work.
A fixed amount of polymer in particle form is filled into a hollow mold. The mold is usually constructed from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The color tone intended for the finished product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic assembly.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and placed inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion procedure.
Once within the oven, the mold is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mould. The spinning is done slowly, about 20 spins per sixty seconds. One thing that is essential at this point is the period of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose value and durability, generating a weak product. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed properly, which develops bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mold cooling.
When the product has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks a little for ease of extraction from the mould. This is yet another procedure that relies a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too fast, causing warping of the item.

4. The offloading or de-moulding phase.
When the material inside te mould has cooled correctly, the molder handling the operation can then remove the completed product from the mold. The technique is repeated from the start, providing a number of exact product lines.
