The Rotomoulding Process in Detail

1. Mould readying.
A fixed amount of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mould. The mold is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic assembly.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and placed within the oven.

2. The heat and fusion procedure.
Once inside the oven, the mould is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The turning is done gradually, about 20 spins per minute. One thing that is important at this moment is the period of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose stability and strength, generating a faulty item. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which creates bubbles in the finished product.

3. Mold cooling.
When the component has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of extraction from the mould. This is another procedure that depends a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too quickly, causing bending of the item.

4. The removing or de-molding phase.
As soon as the component within te mold has cooled effectively, the person handling the procedure can then extract the completed product from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, supplying a series of exact items.
