The Rotomoulding Process Components

1. Mold readying.

2. The heat and fusion step.
Once inside the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly, about 20 spins per minute. The main thing that is important at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose stability and strength, generating a poor item. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have flowed properly, which creates bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of extraction from the mould. This is one more step that relies a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too rapidly, causing warping of the item.

4. The unloading or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the product within te mold has cooled correctly, the person taking care of the operation can then remove the finalized item from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, giving a number of similar items.
