The Rotomolding Procedure Components

1. Mold prep work.
A predetermined amount of polymer in grain form is filled into a hollow mould. The mold is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic production.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and placed into the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion process.
Once within the oven, the mould is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The spinning is done slowly, about 20 spins per minute. One thing that is essential at this moment is the period of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose value and durability, creating a poor item. If it is removed from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted properly, which generates bubbles in the finished product.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks a little for ease of extraction from the mold. This is another measure that depends a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too quick, causing warping of the item.

4. The discharging or de-molding phase.
When the product within te mould has cooled successfully, the molder taking care of the procedure can then remove the completed product from the mold. The function is repeated from the start, giving a series of similar items.
