The Rotomoulding Method Components

This moulding procedure has been used since ancient times for creatingvseverl product lines. Egyptians for instance, applied rotomoulding techniques in the making of ceramics. 1. Mold readying.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mould is usually constructed from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The color preferred for the final goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic manufacturing.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and positioned within the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly, about 20 revolutions per min. One thing that is critical at this point is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose value and durability, generating a faulty item. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted properly, which creates bubbles in the completed product line.

3. Mold cooling.
When the material has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of extraction from the mold. This is another procedure that relies a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too rapidly, causing bending of the item.

4. The unloading or de-moulding phase.
When the product inside te mould has cooled successfully, the molder taking care of the procedure can then extract the completed item from the mold. The technique is repeated from the beginning, supplying a series of similar products.
