The Rotomolding Procedure Components

1. Mold readying.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mold. The mould is usually built from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and placed inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion step.
Once inside the oven, the mold is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The rotation is done gradually, about 20 spins per minute. Something that is important at this point is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose value and strength, producing a weak item. If it is removed from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which generates bubbles in the completed product.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the product has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of extraction from the mold. This is one more measure that depends upon a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too quick, causing bending of the item.

4. The un-loading or de-molding phase.
Once the component inside te mold has cooled adequately, the molder taking care of the procedure can then remove the finalized product from the mould. The technique is repeated from the beginning, making a number of identical product lines.
