1. Mold fitting.
A fixed amount of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mold. The mould is usually built from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic engineering.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and positioned into the oven.

2. The heating and fusion process.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly, about 20 rotations per sixty seconds. One thing that is vital at this point is the amount of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the component will lose value and strength, generating a weak item. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted properly, which creates bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the material has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces slightly for ease of extraction from the mold. This is an additional measure that depends a lot on the correct timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too rapidly, causing bending of the material.

4. The offloading or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the component within te mold has cooled effectively, the person taking care of the operation can then extract the finalized item from the mould. The function is repeated from the beginning, providing a series of identical items.
