The Rotomoulding Method in Detail

This molding process has been used since earlier times for creatingvseverl items. Egyptians for example, used rotomoulding methods in the creating of ceramics. 1. Mould preparation.
A predetermined measure of polymer in powder form is filled into a hollow mould. The mold is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The coloration preferred for the end goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic manufacturing.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and put inside the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion process.
Once within the oven, the mold is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The rotation is done slowly, about 20 revolutions per min. The main thing that is vital at this point is the amount of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the component will lose stability and strength, producing a faulty product. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed properly, which creates bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the material has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces slightly for ease of extraction from the mould. This is an additional step that depends upon a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too fast, causing warping of the material.

4. The removing or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the product inside te mould has cooled successfully, the molder managing the process can then remove the finalized item from the mould. The process is repeated from the beginning, making a series of exact product lines.
