The Rotomolding Process Components

1. Mold fitting.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and placed inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion procedure.
Once within the oven, the mould is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The rotation is done gradually, about 20 revolutions per min. The main thing that is critical at this point is the period of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose value and durability, making a faulty product. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which creates bubbles in the finished product line.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has completely spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is one more step that relies a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too quick, causing warping of the product.

4. The unloading or de-molding phase.
Once the product inside te mold has cooled adequately, the molder taking care of the procedure can then take out the finished item from the mold. The technique is repeated from the start, supplying a series of exact products.
