The Rotomoulding Process Components

1. Mould preparation.
A fixed amount of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mold. The mould is usually made of cast aluminium or sheet steel material. Preheating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and inserted into the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion procedure.
Once inside the oven, the mould is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly, about 20 rotations per minute. Something that is important at this point is the amount of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose stability and strength, creating a faulty item. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which creates bubbles in the finished product.

3. Mold cooling.
When the component has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the component cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of extraction from the mold. This is an additional step that relies a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too fast, causing warping of the material.

4. The discharging or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the component inside te mold has cooled adequately, the molder taking care of the procedure can then take out the finalized product from the mould. The technique is repeated from the beginning, making a series of exact items.
