The Rotomolding Procedure Components

1. Mould preparation.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and put within the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion phase.
Once inside the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The rotation is done slowly and gradually, about 20 rotations per sixty seconds. The main thing that is vital at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose stability and durability, generating a faulty item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which generates bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mold cooling.
When the product has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is an additional measure that relies a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too quickly, causing bending of the material.

4. The offloading or de-molding phase.
As soon as the product inside te mould has cooled successfully, the molder handling the process can then extract the completed product from the mould. The technique is repeated from the beginning, providing a series of similar product lines.
