1. Mold readying.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in powder form is filled into a hollow mold. The mold is usually built from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The coloration chosen for the finished item is pre compounded into the polymer. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic production.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and inserted inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion process.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The rotation is done slowly and gradually, about 20 revolutions per minute. One thing that is important at this point is the period of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose stability and strength, making a weak product. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which produces bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mould cooling.
When the product has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces slightly for ease of extraction from the mould. This is another procedure that depends a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too quickly, causing bending of the item.

4. The unloading or de-molding step.
As soon as the component within te mold has cooled correctly, the molder handling the operation can then remove the finalized product from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, supplying a series of exact items.
