The Rotomoulding Method Components

1. Mold preparation.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and inserted into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion phase.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly, about 20 revolutions per sixty seconds. Something that is important at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose value and durability, generating a weak item. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which develops bubbles in the completed product.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has completely spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the material cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of extraction from the mold. This is another step that depends upon a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too fast, causing bending of the item.

4. The discharging or de-molding step.
When the material within te mold has cooled effectively, the person managing the process can then remove the finalized product from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the start, providing a number of identical items.
