The Rotomoulding Process Components

1. Mold fitting.
A fixed quantity of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mold. The mold is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic production.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and installed within the oven.

2. The heating and fusion step.
Once inside the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mold. The spinning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 revolutions per minute. Something that is essential at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose stability and strength, producing a poor item. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which develops bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces slightly for ease of removal from the mould. This is one more procedure that relies a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too quickly, causing bending of the product.

4. The unloading or de-molding step.
As soon as the product inside te mould has cooled successfully, the molder managing the operation can then extract the completed item from the mold. The technique is repeated from the beginning, supplying a series of identical items.
