1. Mold prep work.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and put into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion step.
Once inside the oven, the mold is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The turning is done gradually, about 20 spins per minute. Something that is critical at this point is the amount of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose stability and strength, creating a faulty product. If it is removed from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed properly, which produces bubbles in the finished product.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the component has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of extraction from the mold. This is another measure that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too fast, causing warping of the product.

4. The removing or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the component within te mold has cooled properly, the person taking care of the operation can then extract the finished item from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, giving a series of identical product lines.
