The Rotomolding Method Components

1. Mould preparation.
A predetermined measure of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mould. The mould is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic production.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and installed within the oven.

2. The heat and fusion step.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The spinning is done slowly, about 20 revolutions per minute. Something that is critical at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the component will lose stability and durability, generating a faulty item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which generates bubbles in the completed product line.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the product has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks a little for ease of removal from the mould. This is an additional measure that depends a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too rapidly, causing bending of the material.

4. The un-loading or de-molding step.
When the component within te mould has cooled effectively, the person handling the process can then extract the completed item from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, giving a series of exact items.
