The Rotomoulding Process in Detail

1. Mold fitting.
A predetermined volume of polymer in particle form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mould is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic assembly.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and positioned within the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion process.
Once inside the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly, about 20 spins per min. One thing that is vital at this moment is the period of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose value and durability, creating a poor item. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which generates bubbles in the finalized product line.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the material has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of removal from the mold. This is another procedure that depends upon a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too fast, causing warping of the product.

4. The removing or de-moulding step.
As soon as the component inside te mold has cooled properly, the molder managing the process can then extract the finalized product from the mold. The function is repeated from the beginning, making a series of identical items.
