The Rotomoulding Method in Detail

1. Mold readying.
A predetermined measure of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mold. The mold is usually constructed from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic assembly.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and inserted into the oven.

2. The heating and fusion process.
Once inside the oven, the mold is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The spinning is done slowly, about 20 rotations per minute. The main thing that is important at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose value and durability, creating a poor item. If it is removed from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which generates bubbles in the finished product line.

3. Mold cooling.
When the material has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces slightly for ease of extraction from the mold. This is yet another procedure that relies a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quick, causing bending of the product.

4. The unloading or de-moulding step.
As soon as the component within te mold has cooled properly, the person taking care of the procedure can then remove the finished item from the mould. The technique is repeated from the start, making a series of similar product lines.
