The Rotomolding Procedure Components

1. Mould preparation.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and positioned inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion phase.
Once within the oven, the mould is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The spinning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 spins per minute. Something that is critical at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose stability and durability, making a poor item. If it is removed from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which develops bubbles in the finished product.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the product has completely spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces slightly for ease of removal from the mould. This is one more measure that depends upon a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too fast, causing warping of the material.

4. The discharging or de-molding step.
Once the material within te mold has cooled correctly, the molder handling the procedure can then remove the finished item from the mould. The function is repeated from the start, making a number of similar product lines.
