The Rotomoulding Method Components

1. Mold prep work.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and positioned inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion step.
Once within the oven, the mold is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The rotation is done slowly and gradually, about 20 rotations per sixty seconds. Something that is essential at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose value and durability, generating a poor product. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which generates bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces slightly for ease of extraction from the mould. This is yet another measure that relies a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quickly, causing warping of the material.

4. The unloading or de-moulding step.
Once the material inside te mould has cooled properly, the molder handling the operation can then remove the finished item from the mould. The function is repeated from the start, giving a number of exact items.
