The Rotomoulding Process in Detail

1. Mold fitting.
A fixed quantity of polymer in grain form is loaded into a hollow mold. The mold is usually made of cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The coloration desired for the finished goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic engineering.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and put inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once inside the oven, the mould is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The spinning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 revolutions per min. Something that is crucial at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose value and durability, making a poor product. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which develops bubbles in the finished product line.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the material has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces a little for ease of extraction from the mould. This is one more measure that relies a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too quickly, causing bending of the material.

4. The offloading or de-molding phase.
As soon as the product within te mould has cooled effectively, the molder managing the procedure can then extract the finished item from the mould. The technique is repeated from the beginning, supplying a number of exact products.
