The Roto-Molding Method Components

This moulding system has been used since earlier times for creatingvseverl products. Egyptians for instance, applied rotational molding methods in the of ceramics. The technique has however taken very long to take affect because it was thought of to be a rather slow process

1. Mould preparation.
A predetermined amount of polymer in grain form is filled into a hollow mold. The mould is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The coloring intended for the finished goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic assembly.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and put within the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion process.
Once inside the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and layers the inside if the mold. The spinning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 rotations per sixty seconds. One thing that is important at this point is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose value and strength, making a poor item. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which produces bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the material has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces a little for ease of extraction from the mould. This is yet another step that relies a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too quick, causing bending of the item.

4. The offloading or de-moulding phase.
When the component within te mould has cooled effectively, the molder taking care of the procedure can then remove the finalized item from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the start, making a number of identical items.
