The Rotomolding Procedure Components

1. Mold preparation.
A fixed measure of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mould. The mould is usually built from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic engineering.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and installed inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion phase.
Once inside the oven, the mould is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mould. The rotation is done slowly and gradually, about 20 revolutions per minute. The main thing that is vital at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose value and strength, producing a faulty item. If it is removed from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted properly, which produces bubbles in the completed product.

3. Mould cooling.
When the component has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of extraction from the mould. This is an additional measure that depends a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too fast, causing bending of the item.

4. The unloading or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the product within te mold has cooled successfully, the person taking care of the procedure can then remove the completed product from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, supplying a number of exact product lines.
