The Rotomolding Procedure Components

1. Mould preparation.
A fixed measure of polymer in grain form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mold is usually comprised of cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic engineering.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and placed into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once within the oven, the mold is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly, about 20 rotations per min. Something that is crucial at this point is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose stability and strength, creating a weak item. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which develops bubbles in the finalized product line.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the material has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks a little for ease of removal from the mould. This is one more measure that depends upon a lot on the correct timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too fast, causing bending of the item.

4. The unloading or de-molding step.
As soon as the product inside te mold has cooled properly, the person handling the process can then remove the completed item from the mould. The function is repeated from the start, giving a number of similar items.
