The Rotomoulding Method Components

1. Mold preparation.
A fixed volume of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mold is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic production.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and placed into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion phase.
Once inside the oven, the mold is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 rotations per minute. Something that is critical at this point is the amount of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose stability and strength, creating a weak product. If it is removed from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which creates bubbles in the completed product line.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the material has completely spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is another measure that depends upon a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too rapidly, causing bending of the product.

4. The un-loading or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the component inside te mould has cooled adequately, the person taking care of the process can then remove the finalized product from the mold. The process is repeated from the beginning, providing a number of similar product lines.
