The Rotomoulding Process in Detail

1. Mold fitting.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in particle form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mold is usually comprised of cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and placed inside the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion process.
Once within the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The spinning is done slowly, about 20 rotations per minute. One thing that is crucial at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose stability and durability, creating a weak item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed properly, which generates bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the material has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is yet another procedure that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quickly, causing warping of the material.

4. The removing or de-molding phase.
Once the product inside te mould has cooled properly, the person taking care of the procedure can then remove the finalized item from the mould. The technique is repeated from the beginning, providing a number of exact items.
