The Rotomoulding Process Components

1. Mould prep work.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in powder form is filled into a hollow mould. The mould is usually comprised of cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The colour preferred for the end goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic manufacturing.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and installed within the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion step.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The turning is done gradually, about 20 spins per minute. Something that is vital at this moment is the period of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose value and durability, producing a weak product. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which produces bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the product has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is another measure that relies a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quick, causing warping of the product.

4. The removing or de-molding phase.
As soon as the product inside te mold has cooled adequately, the molder managing the operation can then take out the completed product from the mould. The function is repeated from the beginning, supplying a number of exact items.
