The Rotomoulding Method Components

1. Mold prep work.
A predetermined measure of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mould. The mold is usually comprised of cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic production.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and placed into the oven.

2. The heating and fusion phase.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The spinning is done gradually, about 20 spins per min. Something that is crucial at this moment is the period of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the component will lose stability and strength, producing a poor item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which produces bubbles in the finalized product line.

3. Mould cooling.
When the product has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the material cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of extraction from the mold. This is yet another procedure that depends upon a lot on the correct timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too quickly, causing bending of the material.

4. The un-loading or de-moulding phase.
Once the product within te mould has cooled successfully, the person taking care of the procedure can then take out the finished item from the mold. The technique is repeated from the start, giving a series of identical product lines.
