The Rotomolding Procedure Components

1. Mold readying.
A predetermined measure of polymer in grain form is loaded into a hollow mold. The mold is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The color needed for the finished item is pre compounded into the polymer. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic engineering.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and put into the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion process.
Once inside the oven, the mould is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly, about 20 rotations per sixty seconds. Something that is critical at this point is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose value and durability, creating a faulty item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which produces bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has completely spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is an additional procedure that depends a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too quickly, causing warping of the material.

4. The unloading or de-moulding step.
Once the product inside te mold has cooled successfully, the person handling the operation can then extract the finished item from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the start, providing a series of similar product lines.
