The Rotomoulding Process Components

1. Mould prep work.
A fixed amount of polymer in grain form is filled into a hollow mold. The mold is usually comprised of cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The coloration needed for the finished item is pre compounded into the polymer. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic production.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and placed inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion process.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The rotation is done slowly and gradually, about 20 revolutions per minute. The main thing that is crucial at this moment is the period of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the component will lose value and strength, generating a poor item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed properly, which develops bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mould cooling.
When the product has completely spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of extraction from the mold. This is one more measure that depends upon a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too fast, causing warping of the material.

4. The un-loading or de-moulding step.
Once the product within te mold has cooled properly, the person taking care of the process can then take out the finished item from the mould. The function is repeated from the start, giving a series of similar product lines.
