The Rotomoulding Method Components

1. Mold readying.
A fixed measure of polymer in grain form is packed into a hollow mould. The mold is usually constructed from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The coloring intended for the finished goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic production.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and put inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion process.
Once within the oven, the mold is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The rotation is done gradually, about 20 spins per sixty seconds. One thing that is essential at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose stability and durability, generating a weak product. If it is removed from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which produces bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the product has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces slightly for ease of extraction from the mold. This is one more step that depends a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too quick, causing bending of the material.

4. The removing or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the product within te mould has cooled successfully, the person handling the operation can then remove the completed product from the mold. The technique is repeated from the beginning, making a number of identical product lines.
