The Rotomoulding Process in Detail

This molding operation has been used since earlier times for creatingvseverl items. Egyptians for example, applied rotomoulding systems in the of ceramics. 1. Mould preparation.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in grain form is packed into a hollow mold. The mold is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The coloration intended for the final goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic manufacturing.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and installed inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion process.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The rotation is done gradually, about 20 spins per sixty seconds. Something that is critical at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the component will lose value and durability, creating a poor item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted properly, which creates bubbles in the finished product line.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the component has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of extraction from the mold. This is another measure that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too fast, causing bending of the item.

4. The offloading or de-molding step.
Once the component inside te mold has cooled effectively, the person handling the procedure can then take out the finished item from the mould. The technique is repeated from the beginning, giving a number of similar products.
