1. Mould fitting.
A predetermined volume of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mold. The mold is usually made of cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The coloring desired for the finished goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic engineering.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and installed inside the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion process.
Once inside the oven, the mold is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and layers the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly, about 20 rotations per min. The main thing that is crucial at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose stability and strength, producing a faulty item. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which develops bubbles in the finished product.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the material has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the component cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of extraction from the mold. This is yet another step that relies a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too quick, causing bending of the product.

4. The unloading or de-molding step.
As soon as the product within te mould has cooled properly, the molder managing the operation can then remove the completed product from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, supplying a series of similar products.
