The Rotomolding Method Components

1. Mould readying.
A predetermined volume of polymer in grain form is filled into a hollow mold. The mold is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic engineering.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and positioned inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion procedure.
Once inside the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The rotation is done slowly, about 20 spins per minute. Something that is important at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose stability and strength, producing a weak item. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have flowed properly, which generates bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mold cooling.
When the component has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of removal from the mold. This is an additional procedure that depends a lot on the correct timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too quick, causing warping of the material.

4. The unloading or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the product within te mould has cooled adequately, the person handling the operation can then take out the finalized item from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the start, providing a series of identical items.
