1. Mold fitting.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mould. The mold is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic manufacturing.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and positioned into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion phase.
Once inside the oven, the mould is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The rotation is done slowly and gradually, about 20 rotations per sixty seconds. Something that is crucial at this point is the amount of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the component will lose value and durability, creating a weak item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted properly, which develops bubbles in the completed item.

3. Mold cooling.
When the component has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the material cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is another procedure that depends upon a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too quick, causing warping of the item.

4. The un-loading or de-molding step.
When the product within te mold has cooled adequately, the molder handling the operation can then take out the finished item from the mold. The technique is repeated from the beginning, providing a series of similar products.
