1. Mould prep work.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mold. The mould is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic engineering.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and put into the oven.

2. The heating and fusion phase.
Once within the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The rotation is done gradually, about 20 rotations per minute. The main thing that is critical at this point is the period of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose stability and strength, creating a faulty item. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which creates bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has completely spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of extraction from the mold. This is yet another procedure that depends a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too fast, causing bending of the material.

4. The un-loading or de-molding step.
Once the component inside te mould has cooled successfully, the person managing the operation can then remove the finished product from the mold. The process is repeated from the start, giving a number of exact items.
