The Rotomoulding Process in Detail

1. Mold prep work.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mold. The mould is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The color needed for the final product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic production.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and put inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once within the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 spins per sixty seconds. The main thing that is crucial at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the component will lose value and durability, producing a weak item. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which creates bubbles in the finalized product line.

3. Mold cooling.
When the product has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of extraction from the mould. This is another procedure that depends a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too quickly, causing warping of the item.

4. The un-loading or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the material within te mould has cooled correctly, the molder managing the procedure can then extract the finalized item from the mold. The function is repeated from the beginning, providing a series of exact products.
