The Roto-Molding Process Components
This molding technique has been used since earlier times for creatingvseverl products. Egyptians for example, utilized rotomoulding systems in the of ceramics. 1. Mold prep work.
A fixed volume of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mold. The mold is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The colour desired for the final product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic production.
Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and inserted within the oven.
2. The heating up and fusion step.
Once inside the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 spins per min. The main thing that is essential at this point is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose stability and strength, making a weak item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which develops bubbles in the finalized product line.
3. Mold cooling.
When the material has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of extraction from the mould. This is yet another measure that depends upon a lot on the correct timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too quickly, causing bending of the product.
4. The unloading or de-molding step.
As soon as the product inside te mould has cooled effectively, the person managing the procedure can then remove the finalized item from the mould. The process is repeated from the start, giving a number of identical items.
