The Rotomoulding Method Components

1. Mold fitting.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and installed into the oven.

2. The heating and fusion procedure.
Once within the oven, the mould is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and layers the inside if the mold. The spinning is done gradually, about 20 revolutions per minute. Something that is essential at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose value and durability, creating a weak product. If it is removed from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which develops bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the product has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of removal from the mould. This is one more step that relies a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too fast, causing bending of the item.

4. The removing or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the material within te mold has cooled adequately, the person handling the process can then take out the completed item from the mould. The function is repeated from the beginning, supplying a series of exact products.
